Clifford

#12175
Retriever, Labrador/Mix
Male
81 lbs (large)
Status: Adopted

Clifford is so much more than a big red dog. He’s an auburn prince among pups whose soft eyes and gentle manner create instant calm wherever he goes. Each pet of his lush fur takes you one step closer to inner peace; his smile is pure pleasure. A classic retriever mix, Cliff is majestic, eager to please and very clever. As an elder he moves a little slower but he’ll sit before the command is even out of your mouth. Give this boy some TLC! Mental health, along fierce love and loyalty, will be your reward.

Here’s some notes from his foster:

Clifford is really coming out of his shell. He won’t lay on a dog bed but my Nest cam caught him curled up on my couch… lol. He’s getting comfortable!

I definitely don’t think he’s even remotely 12 yo. Saw someone with their similar sized 12 year old lab mix and he was grey and slow. Clifford is not slow. He can run, but doesn’t seem to like to I think just cause he’s a big boy. He’s got a funny walking cadence which is my pace and then suddenly a fast trot.

We do about 4 miles a day now. Usually one 2 mile walk and sniff and the rest broken up. He gets VERY excited when he knows it’s walk time. He has these little grunts of excitement. He’s also getting more and more excitement seeing other dogs on the street. I’m trying to work on that a bit with “leave it”. He still just wants to check them out and then move on.

He attached to me very fast and now I have a red shadow. He’s a complete love and a total red lab personality. Jumping in the car definitely takes effort for him but he is SOO happy to be outside and wants to do meet and greets, especially if someone is walking by with their food :)

Clifford won’t run over to people but when they come towards him he’ll then meet them half way, do a light lean for some scratches and move on. He makes eye contact with walkers as we pass by and with a big smile. He’s a very polite Mr. And he’s just so happy to go on walks with his person. He makes little grunts of excitement while i put on his harness.

Clifford is house trained! He does totally fine in the house. He can hold it throughout the night. I tried him on some stairs that aren’t too steep and he did them. He also doesn’t go after my dogs food. He respects that its not his and leaves it alone.

All this said, he is such an amazing dog. He’ll be a loving, goofy, and fully loyal companion to someone. And I also have a hard time believing his age. He seems more like an 8 or 9 year old lab to me!
