If you’re looking for a mutt who is part couch potato, have we got the Maltese-Shi Tzu mix for you! Cedar is a sweet senior boy who may be a little vision impaired but manages to find his way around just fine. Does he smell like Cedar chips? You’ll have to meet him to find out, but he can certainly plant himself like a Cedar when he’s in a good spot for snuggles! You’ll see him wiggling about as he makes his way through Muttville, but he likes to keep his walkies short and his naps long. He is a great couch companion, though, and he promises to never hog the remote! He’ll even let you pick the shows! Are you looking for a stalwart snuggle-buddy like Cedar?
Here’s some notes from his foster:
Cedar is a quiet, calm and shy gentle dog. He loves scritches and will readily roll over for belly rubs while in his doggie bed – he’ll lie in that position for long periods of time. He tends to be a lounger.
Even with limited vision, he’ll cautiously navigate up/down steps when he needs to. Cedar is not a fan of baths, grooming clippers, very loud devices such as vacuums. Cedar is enjoying longer, slow walks on leash, meandering and smelling along the way. I use a clicker to redirect him due to his decreased vision and hearing. Cedar potties on walks, in the yard when I take him out. When I leave him for short periods of times, he is able to access through the doggie door. In my home, he will wander and locate his various doggie beds.
He is content to lay in his doggie bed for long naps, while demonstrating no particular interest toys. Cedar enjoys lots of petting – he raise his front paws to seek out affection. I make sure to give him some sensory notice before picking him up, so that he doesn’t get frightened. He tends to be a little stiff when I carry him for short distances. When on a walk, he was actively trying to engage with another dog; he was fine with adults. He seems to ignore or tolerate kids. He enjoys car rides and walks, as demonstrated with much tail wagging. Cedar is fine when left alone. He is a super pleasant senior doggo to have around.
