Everybody knows that a cannonball can take a pool party to giddy heights. We can now add that a sleek Miniature Pinscher named Cannonball has the same effect nearly everywhere he goes. Handsome as heck, playful with other dogs and fond of all the people, he’s one of life’s happy customers. His personality is mellow, but he’s got lots of pep for walks, stairs, and relentless wagging of his stubby tail. His manners are lovely, and his treat motivation adds some focus and ambition if this senior dog is called upon to learn new tricks. Looking for a loyal pal and lovebug who might work out as a chess partner? He’s over here.

Here’s some notes from his foster :

Cannonball could not be more appropriately named. He is a silly ball of energy. His curiosity, big personality, and goofy mannerisms make me laugh all day. Cannonball likes to be in the very center of whatever is going on, and he would do best in an active household where he can get the human interaction and exercise he needs. Having a fenced yard would be nice, but as long as he is able to take long, frequent, fast walks, he would be happy enough.

Cannonball isn’t completely comfortable with large dogs during walks yet. From what I’ve observed, I think Cannonball would do well in a house with smaller dogs, or one with no dogs. He’s fine with smaller dogs, but he doesn’t seem to care much about interacting with them. He’s either mostly in tune with the humans, or off in his own curious world of boundless exploration.

An ideal day for Cannonball would be a brisk 5 mile walk, followed by a hearty breakfast, a nap, and then more walkies…and then of course, more food…then, more walkies…the more the better. I think our longest walks have been in the 3-4 mile range (and several of those a day), and I have yet to tire him out. He is endlessly curious. Another great name for him might be FOMO.

Probably my favorite thing about Cannonball is that he gets me up and out of the house. Many older dogs tend to be couch potatoes, and don’t afford their humans the opportunity to integrate exercise into daily life. Not Cannonball. He is peppy and wants to be your active exercise buddy. I’ve even gone jogging with him. He’s a great running partner.

Cannonball is exuberant and silly. He is very vocal, has opinions, and tells you when he thinks you should be doing something other than whatever it is you’re doing. He grunts and snorts, and snores when he sleeps. He also wags his butt and looks at you over his shoulders, grinning, making absolutely certain that you’re watching him wiggle his little nubbin tail. I really wish I could get this on camera. Cannonball is just plain funny. He’s only been in my home for a few days, and he’s already Mr Popular on neighborhood walks.
