Cue the surf music for Board Shorts, a youthful Maltese mop-top we suspect is an avid Beach Boys fan. Favorite album: Pet Sounds. Favorite song: “California Girls.” (He really digs the styles they wear.) A youthful 8 years old, he’s a tiny power plant in crisp white curls, generating more than enough energy for the adventure, friendship and shenanigans on his packed agenda. He likes a mixed-species posse filled with dogs and people, doesn’t mind taking the stairs; and does walkies at the speed of light. He’s fluent in several love languages, including cuddles, pets and snuggles. Come have a word with this cutie boy today.

Here’s some notes from his foster:

Board Shorts is a wonderful little mutt who packs a wallop of personality for such a small dog. “Shorts’, as we call him, is happy to be with his humans and likes to be fussed over but prefers to be cuddly on his own schedule. He LOVES to go for walks outside and he mostly ignores other dogs and people. He is pretty easy-going, lets strangers pet him and he’s not afraid of traffic, loud trucks or fire engines.

At home, he likes to play tug of war and will bring tossed toys back to you. He is 99% potty trained and stands up or goes to the door to let you know. We initially missed these signals. Along with other walks throughout the day, we take him out around 9:30pm and again at 6:00am so he sleeps through the night. He is a curious pup who wants to go everywhere and sniff everything. Shorts is not a big breakfast eater but he loves treats but he is the only dog I’ve ever met that doesn’t like peanut butter!

Board Shorts is a fitness king! He would make a great companion to a fellow fast walker— he might even be up for short runs. Mr. Board Shorts has a ferocious bark for someone so smoll!!! When you first leave him by himself he will use that bark to let you know he’s displeased, but if you let him get his feelings out he’ll stop after 2-5 minutes and settle down and self soothe pretty quickly. He also does very well sleeping alone overnight as long as you’re not in his line of sight and you give him that moment to settle, but he definitely would prefer to snuggle up next to you at night.

He is very cuddly, but not necessarily a lap guy! He prefers to snuggle up next to you and get lots of pets and belly rubs. He likes stuffed toys a lot and feels passionately about industriously licking all rugs, beds, and humans he comes into contact with. He knows sit, but is very sassy and impatient about following orders (he doesn’t understand why you aren’t just giving him the treat!).

‘Shorts’ is so sweet and is a very loving little dog who likes being with his people (he is curled up at my feet as I write this). He has a lot of energy and likes to play tug of war. He wants to be outside all the time. I took him for a long walk in Golden Gate Park for an hour – he did get tired but after a short rest, he bounded back home and wanted to go right back out again. In the park, we met a family, and he loved playing and being petted by the kids who were grade school ages.
