I am writing with a heavy heart about our beloved dog, Bentley, and the difficult decision we’ve come to after nine wonderful years together. Bentley has been more than just a pet—he’s truly part of our family. We got him when we were stationed in Maryland as part of a military family, and he’s traveled across the country with us, first to San Diego, then to Hawaii, and now to Sacramento. He’s been with us through every adventure, and he’s brought so much love and joy into our lives. These last 8 years have been the best.

When Bentley was three years old, we got him a companion named Koko. They instantly became the best of friends, and their favorite thing to do together was go to the dog beach and cuddle up afterwards. Watching them play and relax together has always been such a joy.

However, we recently had a child, and this has created an unexpected challenge for our family. Our little one has severe allergies to Bentley, and despite trying everything we could for over a year—including working closely with an allergist—the situation has worsened. The allergies have become increasingly difficult to manage, and as a result, Bentley’s time with us has become more limited. He’s no longer able to access the areas where we spend most of our time, and we’ve noticed that this has caused some tension between him and our child. He’s started to bark at her, and we can see his frustration, which breaks our hearts.

It’s been an incredibly hard decision, but we’ve come to realize that for Bentley’s happiness, we need to find him a new home where he can thrive. He deserves to spend his senior years in a loving environment where he’ll be given the attention and care he deserves. Bentley is such a wonderful dog—he’s incredibly obedient, and he thrives on positive reinforcement. We know he would do well with a family with teenagers, a couple, or even a single person. He has so much love to give, and we know he’d be a perfect fit for any home that welcomes him.

He is neutered, 75lb lab mix , 8 years old
