Althea

#12442
Terrier, Pit Bull
Female
91 lbs (extra large)
Status: Adopted

Winner of the Newbie Congeniality Award on her first day at Muttville, Althea the pittie mix is a Zen mistress, moving through the world with loving kindness for every creature in her path. She gently boops the teeny dogs and leans into humans, all of us under the spell of her conspicuous sweetness. A big gal, she’s firm on her feet, able to amble around smelling the roses, or, if you please, lie around improving everyone’s mood. Adopt this gorgeous multitasker today!

Here’s some notes from her foster:

Althea has been with us for a few days now and has been doing great. We have two other Muttville alums at home and she has been very respectful of their space, including not reacting whenever one of them barks or gives a “warning” snarl.

She hasn’t barked at all while we’ve had her and is a pretty good walker (short trip around the block), including navigating the 5-6 stairs in and out of our house.

Althea appears to be house trained and follows us out to our backyard to take care of business a few times a day. We haven’t learned her “tells” yet for needing to go out, so we’re taking her out every few hours for now.

She’s a great sleeper (8-10 hours) and only gets up to change positions a few times during the evening. She sleeps on a dog bed by our bed and seems to be good with that. She also has a cute snore, so you know when she’s comfy. And best of all…no overnight accidents!

Althea is very gentle when meeting new humans, including our nine-year-old nephew. We’ve also discovered that she enjoys playing with a Kong (even without any peanut butter!).

When we brought her home from Muttville (to Alameda) she did great in the car. Was able to use a doggy step to get into the backseat and simply enjoyed the ride. When we got closer to home, we put the back window down a bit, and she put her head out to enjoy the new smells (and some raindrops).

We haven’t left her alone for any length of time but we’re not seeing any signs that would indicate she’d be disruptive or start barking in our absence.

Althea appears to bond quickly and likes to keep her humans within sight. She tends to follow at least one of us around whenever we get up, but otherwise likes to simply lay near you and take a nap. And because she likes to keep close tabs on her human, she can “pick up speed” a bit if she sees you heading for the door, so just be mindful that she’s quicker than she appears and may head out the door and take herself for a walk, leaving her human to play catchup.

So in summary…Althea is cute, good with other pets, would love to have a human that is home and with her more often than not, house trained, snores a bit, would probably benefit from being able to walk straight out to a yard or any space without a step/stairs (but this is not mandatory because she can do them now and will improve as weight comes off), likes to play with a toy, good on the leash and is an all-around joy!

We have no doubt she’ll find her forever home quickly!
