Addie, a chocolate Chesapeake Bay Retriever mix, is a fine example of truth in advertising. Agile, trustworthy, loyal and very beautiful, she retrieves like nobody’s business. Toys, balls, a spiky rubber orb full of flashing light – if you toss it, she will come. She does it happily, with some bounce and a big smile which rarely goes away, especially if tum rubs are on offer. She likes a walk, can take the stairs, and will always love you. She’s big on dogs too, including the small ones. Her eyebrows must be seen to be believed. Come and throw something, or just hang out and run your fingers through her shiny curls.

Here’s some notes from her foster :

Addie is a sweet, very quiet, unimposing, polite, and patient dog. She asks for attention by gently touching you with her paw. She gave me her belly to rub once she fully trusted me (around week 5). Loves belly rubs and chin scratches, but is not crazy about having her ears touched.

She loves sitting on the couch with you. The first few weeks she moved if I moved.

Settled in around Day 4 with my 6-year-old male Lab, Tucker. Shows no resource

guarding around food, treats, or water. Very food-motivated with no known food sensitivities.

Loves soft treats and half of a cow ear as a high-value reward. Absolutely loves

vanilla ice cream! She knows basic obedience. She is a smart lady. Learning to heel. If she pulls, a slight leash tug and a prompt works well.

Walks on a loose leash on the way home. I discovered she is off leash trained in early August. She eagerly greets people and dogs with a wagging tail/wiggle butt. Has reliable recall (“Addie, come”). She doesn’t read aggressive body language from other dogs well, so I always leash her if I see a dog on leash.

Addie is great with kids, I have a video of her playing with a little girl about 8 or 9

at the beach for a long time. Loves being brushed and groomed; very patient. Does great at self-serve dog wash stations only sensitive blow dryers near her ears.

Not afraid of vacuum cleaners or garden hoses.

Excellent in the car; loves leaning her paws on the armrest to look out the front

window. Dislikes seatbelt harnesses, but tolerates. The beach is absolute favorite place! Loves chasing and catching balls/treats in the air and walking along the water line (does not swim). Patiently waits by the car for a brush and towel dry.

Has no issues being left at home alone. Waits patiently near the front door when you leave. Greets you with an excited wiggle butt. After proper petting, she drinks water,

heads to the yard to pee (wants you with her), followed by her evening walk and

dinner.

Addie is a fun dog once she got comfy with us, she is so sweet and kind with her

humans. She is a sweet soul.
