Providing foster or hospice care for rescue animals, as well as tending to the needs of our aging companion creatures, has many rewards. It can also be heart-wrenching, as each of these endeavors ultimately culminates in a significant loss. The process of bereavement is frequently non-linear, and can impact us in unanticipated ways. While we expect sadness and heartache, we might not recognize the more bewildering changes in ourselves such as difficulty concentrating, irritability or forgetfulness.
