Sarge..

Shepherd Mix
Male
Large (50-90 lbs)
Status: Available from another shelter

Sarge is a 10+ year old, male, black & tan German Shepherd, weighing 64 pounds. He is a very sweet boy with special needs because of a weakened hind end and is hard of hearing or possibly deaf. He is currently on Gabapentin to help his mobility and pain. Despite his mobility issues, he does enjoy being outdoors on short, slow walks.

His immunizations are up-to-date but has not yet been neutered. This will be done prior to adoption. He’s good with kids.

We have no history on Sarge as he was found tied to our shelter gate. What we do know is that he is a very sweet dog that loves his walks, brushings and pets. He becomes more affectionate the longer he knows you. He likes kids. We’re not sure if he is potty trained, but might be. He does not like cats. He does bark a lot at other dogs he sees pass by, but we haven’t seen extreme reactivity. The shelter is a terrible place to assess dogs/dog interactions because it can be so stressful and we do feel that his reaction may in part be because he’s older, deaf and likely in pain with his arthritic legs, so he may just be defensively warning off other dogs. The staff and volunteers all love Sarge and give him a lot of love, but it does not begin to compare with him being able to live out the rest of his life in a safe and loving home in peace. We will be so very grateful for anything you can do to help Sarge.
