Like a beautiful star in the sky, Astrid is just dazzling. Don’t let her white muzzle fool you, this senior lady has plenty of shine and spark to share, as well as tons of heart-warming affection she’ll be glad to give you while snuggled up together. We aren’t quite sure how her tiny body holds such a huge heart, but you’re sure to fall in love with this celestial sweetheart once you meet Astrid and experience for yourself the magic she holds.

This dog is hospice due to a life limiting condition. Astrid has a large mass in her mouth (lower left jaw). It is likely to progress rapidly and spread to other parts of her body. Survival time without aggressive intervention is likely to be less than 1 year.

Here’s some notes from her foster:

Astrid is the epitome of sweet, full of a love of life and a curious playful zest.

At home, she is the perfect WFH dog who wants to hang out on your lap in a blanket or in a bed near the desk. She snuggles into a cushy spot and takes a snooze all day- getting up to follow me around the house to keep an eye on things. She is a very mindful dog who doesn’t want to get in the way and is only looking for snuggles and love.

Re: stairs- she seems very comfortable going down! Sometimes goes up stairs, sometimes refuses and needs to be carried (I think mostly if it’s hot / she’s tired).

She barely barks at all- I’ve heard her only once. She snores quietly while napping. And she does very well napping throughout the day. But also is high energy when a human starts moving around – she wants to follow.

She has started to learn how to potty outside and is really making great progress. She still will use the potty pads in an emergency, but she has been #1 and #2-ing outside this week.

With positive reinforcement and gaining trust, I can see her being able to go outside 90% of the time. If she has to go and doesn’t indicate, she will go straight for a potty pad.

Any potential adopters will want to be patient as she learns ‘the ropes’ in another home, but she quickly catches on and has increased her adaptability as we’ve grown trust between us.

Astrid enjoys short walks, but likes to keep them snappy and mostly on pavement or cushy grass. She is not a very vocal dog and I haven’t heard a peep out of her yet from any barks or whines.

She has loved the carrying pouch I have to go with me places and take a snooze while we hang out in dog friendly spaces or in a park if she’s getting too tired.

I’d suggest Astrid go to a home where her mission to cuddle and love will be welcomed and her playful curiosity can continue to be a part of her days.
